Best Macos For Mac Mini 2012

Apple's forthcoming macOS Big Sur will be available to select Macs produced from 2013 and onward, leaving the original Retina MacBook Pro behind.

I have 2012 Mac mini (2,6 GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 250GB 860EVO SSD.) running macOS 10.15.4 Catalina with AMD Radeon RX 460 2GB eGPU using ATTO Thunderlink Thunderbolt enclosure. (I still have to add it to the builds on this forums. Of course also this Purge-Wrangler script is needed. But it's very easy to install. And it has to be an AMD GPU. You can either buy some TB3 eGPU specific box. Apr 02, 2018 I'm holding on to Apple Mac Mini Late 2012 edition for a few following reasons: 1.) It is the last Mac Mini computer that allows for manual upgrade of memory (RAM). I boosted it from 4 GB to 16 GB by manual upgrade. (The later Mac Mini like 2014 edition has RAM soldered in that makes it impossible to upgrade manually.) 2.).

Apple has revealed the new macOS Big Sur at WWDC 2020, and subsequently announced the list of Macs capable of running the updated operating system when it is released to the public later this year.

Apple says that the list of compatible Macs date back to 2013, leaving behind the first generation of Retina Macs.

  • Macbook (2015 and later)
  • MacBook Air (2013 and later)
  • MacBook Pro (2013 and later)
  • Mac mini (2014 and later)
  • iMac (2014 and later)
  • iMac Pro (all models)
  • Mac Pro (2013 and later)

Apple has released the first beta version of macOS Big Sur to developers for testing on Monday. Those in the Public Beta Program will be able to demo the software later this summer.

AppleInsider, and Apple itself, strongly recommend users don't install the betas on primary devices or hardware they deem as 'mission-critical' at all, as there is the highly remote possibility of data loss or other issues. Testers should instead install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices as a safer alternative, and to always make sure there are sufficient backups of important data before updating.

If you try to start up your Mac from a hard disk, network volume, or Time Machine backup that contains an incompatible version or build of macOS, you might experience one or more of these symptoms:

  • You see a message that you're using an unsupported or incorrect version of the Mac operating system.
  • Your Mac doesn't respond to your trackpad, mouse, or keyboard.
  • Apps unexpectedly quit.
  • Your Mac doesn't sleep or wake.
  • You don't hear any sound from your Mac.
  • The fans in your Mac are louder, because they're spinning faster.
  • The image on your display appears to shrink, has black bars around it, or appears tinted.
  • You can't use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Which Mac operating systems are compatible?

The version of macOS that came with your Mac is the earliest version compatible with that Mac. To find out whether your Mac is compatible with a later version of macOS, check the system requirements:

If your Mac won't start up from a compatible version of macOS, it might require a specific build of that version. To get the correct build, reinstall macOS or upgrade to a later version of macOS.
